Last Monday marked the start of Fair Pay Fortnight, a campaign run by the TUC to demonstrate exactly why a wage-led recovery is so important.
Workers have lost out on over £4,000 since 2009, with public sector workers faring even worse losing out on £2,000 per year on average – all because this government is breaking the wrong kind of records when it comes to wages.
And this is just the tip of the iceberg. As childcare costs, energy bills, rents and house prices soar, the cost of living crisis is the harsh reality for many working families, struggling to make ends meet.
With new statistics showing that the number of people on zero hours contracts has risen from 1.4 million to a staggering 1.8 million, the evidence is stacking up to show that this government is failing to tackle the problem.
This is why we’ll be joining the TUC and others across the trade union movement to say Britain urgently needs a pay rise
